Jennifer Henczel : [00:00:00] Have you been doing a lot of work creating amazing content, showing up on social media, sharing your content everywhere, but you’re still not moving the needle? Or maybe you’re getting some traction, but you need to know how to finally break through. I want to share with you how I am growing my list and community, leveraging my content and message, and monetizing my expertise, skills, and knowledge.
I’ve created systems and strategies that have helped me to finally break through and turn my side gig into my full time income, and I want to show you how I do that today. My name is Jennifer Henczel, and I’m a podcaster, author, founder of the Women in Podcasting Network and Inspiring Innovators Club. And I have two podcasts, the Women in Podcasting Show and the Inspiring Innovators Show.
I’ve won a number of awards, and most recently, I won Innovator of the Year Award from Quill Awards. For a long time, my business was just a part time side gig and I was constantly trying to turn it into something full time and I just couldn’t do it. It was always around the next corner. But then finally, in 2012, I was able to break free and turn my side gig into my full time business and I [00:01:00] haven’t worked for anyone since.
A big part of that was learning how to build thriving communities around my message and how to leverage my message and expertise to generate reoccurring monthly income and I want to share that with you today. So I won’t go into my backstory here, you can hear it in the first episodes of either of my podcasts and shows.
But basically, a tragedy happened, and the whole thing really made me look at my life, and I realized that I had become isolated, and stuck in my job, stuck in my life. Have you ever felt stuck? So while the situation really blew up my life, there were also moments that reignited some kind of light and spark within me, and I had had enough of not living life the way I wanted to.
And I realized that one of the things I was missing was community. Real, genuine, meaningful connection and community in the business world and entrepreneur world. So, out of my own need and desire to connect with other people, I invited local business owners to join me for lunch one day. And I wasn’t very organized with it back then.
I just put it out there on socials, you know, hey, do you want to join me for lunch? And to my surprise, that day, 50 [00:02:00] business owners showed up and I was shocked. The little room I had reserved was overflowing and I discovered that other people were seeking connection also. I wasn’t the only one. So that one meeting turned into a group and that group turned into a network with multiple chapters throughout my region.
I planned and promoted over 600 events and met so many amazing people, and with the platform I had grown and cultivated, I was even able to help my husband go from an injured mail worker to an international speaker and author. And I helped him publish a book about our story, and he’s done a TED Talk called Silencing Stigma Through Storytelling.
I ended up selling that network, and I’ve built other successful communities since then, for example, one of them is the Women in Podcasting Network, and as a result, I’ve developed systems and strategies for building communities. I use what I call rise reach results, a three apex model. So imagine three mountains side by side, see it in your mind, maybe each one is a different shape or color, but each has a peak and your goal is to reach the [00:03:00] top of each of those mountains.
You need to strive to reach the summit of each of those three mountains to experience more flow, focus, and fulfillment in your journey. The key to using this model is to identify if you’re missing any of the steps or paths on each of the mountains, and then to chart a course on how to bridge those gaps in your map.
You may have a lot of these paths already charted in and you might just need some small tweaks to make all the difference. I’m going to cover a couple of things from each of the mountains, but we have a lot more to help you on your journey within the RiseReach Results Roadmap Program. The first mountain is called Mount Mindset.
It’s the flow apex. This is where you rise and ascend. This is where the inner work takes place, igniting your inner influencer. It’s the path to finding your flow, exploring your passion, what inspires and motivates you, what really lights you up, what fires you up. It’s a map for ascending to your highest apex.
When you elevate your thinking, you elevate your life and your [00:04:00] business. I found out the hard way that you must scale this mountain to the best of your ability in order to flourish in all the other areas and to reach the other peaks. Now there’s lots of things that could be covered in this section, lots of courses and programs.
I’m sure some of you are even experts in this area and you live on the summit of this mountain. But here are some of the things that have helped me the most with my mindset. The beginning steps of my ascension journey on this mountain started from the depths of the deepest valley as you could hear in my story.
But I was inspired by another community, a football community, to build my first community. So what I like to say about having a community mindset is Drop the hustle and join the huddle because what I found out for anything to work, you need to be part of a community. You need to build your circle of support around you.
It will not build itself and people will help you if you show up to be helped. You need to put yourself in a position of experiencing the value of being connected and supported, right? So the myth is that the one who teaches the most, the [00:05:00] one who creates the best website and all the best social content, the one who hustles the most.
I was hustling 12, 14, 16 hours a day. The myth that one who hustles to the point of exhaustion makes the most money and freedom, but it’s just not true. The problem was, I was trying to do everything alone. Hustling alone on your own island won’t get you very far, but walking the path and climbing the mountain with like minded people will make the journey much more enjoyable and take you places you can’t imagine.
Opportunities will flow to you. I had to flip the scripts in my mind, you know the ones that say, you have to do everything on your own, you don’t need other people, you have to be polished before you show up? But quite the opposite, you have to be you to show up. That’s it. That’s all it takes for the real you to stand up and let yourself be seen, and you will find your friends and your following and a place to call home.
So the first thing I had to learn was having a community mindset, because a rising tide lifts all boats. I always make sure that connection, collaboration, [00:06:00] support, and encouragement are always at the core of any community I create. Now, let’s just chat for a minute about incorporating mindset practices.
So as far as mindset work, even if you’re at the pinnacle of your modality and inner work, even if you’ve reached the top of your peak in this area, remember the view is always changing. It’s always a work in progress. Through our experience of going from a tragedy to a triumph, my husband and I, we’ve learned a number of new modalities that really helped us.
There are many, but one of our favorite things is affirmations. Now, if someone’s told you affirmations don’t work, then they probably just aren’t using them right or using them in a different way than how we use them, but I’ve created some of our favorite affirmations. favorite affirmations to encourage you and help you stay motivated.
So in the rise section of the rise, reach results roadmap, you’ll find 40 morning power statements to awaken your inner influencer and 30 affirmations for self discovery. I also have an affirmation for podcasters in there and I’m always adding new things. In the Rise section, [00:07:00] I’ve also included my 30 day Mindset Shift Journal.
It includes overcoming limiting beliefs, which is so important, and I’ve put some examples in there for you. And I talk about having a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset, and 30 days of prompts to help you break through on the mindset end of things. It’s so important. So to wrap up this overview of Mount Mindset, I want to ask you, what modalities have you put in place for your mental health and your mindset and to stay inspired and encouraged and motivated?
The next mountain is Mount Message. It’s your focus apex. This is where you increase your reach and authority. This mountain determines your focus. Telling your story, identifying your audience, and amplifying your visibility. This is where you master your message and start moving from invisible to impactful.
I’m going to cover four things on this mountain. The first thing is identifying your ideal audience and creating an avatar of your ideal client, customer, member, or listener. [00:08:00] In the reach section of the roadmap, you’ll find 50 questions for creating your ideal avatar. And I’ve created that for you so that you can easily create your avatar of your ideal audience member.
Here’s why knowing your audience is so important. Take a look at this infinity loop. On the left side, we have your flow, your mindset, all the inner work that we talked about earlier, and your passion. Now look on the right side. That’s your focus. You need to know what your audience’s pain and problem is.
You need to know what their problem is so that you can provide a solution. So it’s not about focusing on the negative, but you need to be able to know that in order to cultivate your message and to cultivate a community around your message. I did a lot of training in an office where they provided services and funding and educational programs to new entrepreneurs to help them get started.
And one of the most common steps that I noticed was skipped was this knowing your audience part. People are baffled, right? How am I supposed to know my ideal client when I haven’t even started selling? And so it’s a lot of [00:09:00] guesses in the beginning. But here’s the thing, if you start a business only based on your passion, you’re not going to make very much money.
I’ve seen it time and time again. And it’s the same if you only want to do the other side of the equation. I’ve had people over the years say to me, Jennifer, just tell me a business that’s just going to make money. But then what happens? You get burnt out because you need the passion to sustain you. You can’t just do one side or the other.
It needs to be balanced. It needs to be balanced down the middle. And when you can successfully balance that, when you serve the world, With your passion, that’s your purpose. And that’s when you can create frameworks that will generate prosperity. I cover it further in the influence formula. You can go watch that masterclass in the monetize section.
Now, continuing in the reach section of the roadmap, we’re going to talk about crafting your signature story. So my husband and I use the story teach tool model for storytelling, and it’s really worked great for [00:10:00] us. It’s about not getting stuck in your story. Tell your story. Talk about how you’ve overcome adversity or what adventures you’ve had and what has helped you along your journey.
As a result of embracing our story, we have both spoken to so many audiences. It’s opened so many doors for us. And most of you have an amazing story too. It doesn’t have to be a tragedy. It can be an adventure, something you’ve learned that can help others. So schedule some time in to work on it. Make it as concise and intentional and impactful as possible.
We have tools to help you in the reach section of the Rise Reach Results Roadmap. And add teaching points. Add teaching points, tips, and steps, and then at the end a call to action. So that’s what the StoryTeach tool model is all about. And your story is how you’re going to connect with your audience. So inside the Reach section you’ll find something called Your Signature Story Workbook and there’s a training that goes with it as well.
And there are other pieces in the Reach section that will help you with your story. We’re always adding new things. [00:11:00] The next thing in the reach section is number three is developing a powerful pitch and winning USP. USP stands for unique selling proposition or some people say unique selling point. You need to create a USP for your business or your podcast and then you can weave that into a powerful pitch.
It’s how you introduce yourself. You can use an elevator pitch at a networking event or other opportunities to introduce yourself, or if you’re invited to a collaboration, that description is what you would send to someone. Whether you’re a seasoned business owner, entrepreneur, podcaster, author, coach, speaker, or you’re just starting out, an elevator pitch is a powerful tool that can help you grow your podcast or your business.
It’s small tweaks like this that could make a huge difference in your business. You need to be able to introduce yourself in a very concise yet impactful way. Transcribed Between running the large network I was telling you about earlier and the other communities I’ve created, I’ve seen and heard thousands of elevator pitches over the years, and I’ve seen people deliver their introductions meeting after meeting, week after week, and [00:12:00] I’ve seen the responses they’ve gotten from it, or when they didn’t get any response at all.
So, I’ve seen what works and I’ve seen what doesn’t work. So, what I have to help you with this is 25 AI prompts to boost your business and power up your USP. See my format for attracting and connecting with your ideal audience, for building your brand and monetizing your message. The fourth thing on the reach mountain is leverage your content and message. I’ve noticed that most entrepreneurs, podcasters, speakers, coaches need to have a better handle on their assets.
And what I mean by that is their images, their links, their content, their bio. If you want people to find you, then you need to make it easy to be found. You need one place where you keep everything and organize it, like in a folder in a Google Drive, or I like to use Keep Notes. And you need to have one main place where you send people so that they can get your [00:13:00] links and your images and your content.
What I have to help you with this is called a quick links page or a link and bio page. It’s a one page website template and you can customize it and use it immediately. You can have all your assets available on there so that people can find you more easily and connect with you. A quick links page is the first step in building your list.
It’s the first step in a funnel, which leads us to the next mountain. And this is my. favorite mountain that’s coming up. But before we leave Mount Message, I want to challenge you and ask, will you commit to organizing your assets, going through your USP and pitch exercises, schedule some time in to do that and to work on your story.
Mount, monetize. This is your framework, Apex. This mountain embodies your tangible results. This is where you build your framework that supports your vision. This is where your alignment lives. It’s systems and strategies for monetizing your message with signature offers. On this mountain, I show my members and clients a proven path for increasing influence and impact.[00:14:00]
It’s about being equipped with the right systems and tools for your journey. I’ll show you what I use to be able to create multiple streams of income. So Mount monetizes where you create systems to monetize your message, which puts your passion tangibly into the world. So what I like to say is your purpose is how you serve the world with your passion.
Systems and strategies are how you take your idea and put it tangibly into the world to help others. And this becomes your purpose. We’ll talk about strategies on this mountain in just a moment, but first I want to pause. Now that you know what all three mountains are, we’ve got Mount Mindset, Mount Message, and Mount Monetize, you can see the power in being able to identify any missing steps or paths on any of the mountains and filling in the gaps in your map.
For me, I was missing the most steps on Mount Mindset, and I thought my mindset was in good shape because I had been in corporate, government, and non profit environments. All those places offered ongoing professional development in one form or another. So I thought I [00:15:00] had perfected my mindset, but oh no, I had to make some shifts in my thinking to be an entrepreneur.
But usually my clients are missing parts in this section on this mountain, how to effectively monetize your message. And this is my jam. This is my strongest area of expertise. So let’s dive into these strategies on this mountain. When you want to monetize, you need to have a funnel. You need to know what your funnel looks like because you can’t expect your clients to know what your funnel looks like if you don’t know what your funnel looks like.
So, on Mount Message, you identified your audience and you know where they hang out and you know what their problem is. But now, on Mount Monetize, you need to attract them. So, think of all the places where your audience hangs out. Now, entice them with a lead magnet. Create an offer. You can have low, mid, and high ticket offers.
Your offer could be a book, event, retreat, membership, mastermind, group coaching, or One on one coaching, or a session to [00:16:00] do with your modality. The further down the funnel you go, the more you are involved with your time, and the higher the cost to the client or member. For me, the lead magnet is at the core of all of that.
It attracts your ideal audience onto your list, and then you can build a deeper relationship with them and serve them so that they can get to know you. You need to offer something to entice them onto your list. For example, you can offer a gift like a complimentary download, such as a worksheet, a template, a checklist, a guide, report, a webinar, a mini course, a challenge, or a discovery call.
All kinds of things can be lead magnets. Paul even gives away a digital copy of his book for some audiences. Inside my Rise, Reach, Results Roadmap membership, I’ve included a complete funnel for you. It starts with the Quick Links page, which is the link in BioPage. And then I’ve 7 page Lead Magnet Canva template to help you create your lead magnet.
I’ve also included lead magnet mock ups to help you create a tangible feel for your gift, and I’ve created a landing page, [00:17:00] a squeeze page, for your lead magnets so that you can collect emails and start to capture those leads and build a relationship with your audience. I’ve also created an offer sales page template with fill in the blank sales copy to guide you in writing your sales page.
And I’ve also provided mock ups for your offer to help you make your offer tangible and irresistible to your audience. So I’ve provided all of that for you in the results section of the Rise, Reach, Results Roadmap. Having a proper funnel in place will open up new opportunities. You will Believe the opportunities that will flow to you in the connections, and it will open you up to new collaborations because a lot of collaborations, if you don’t have a proper funnel in place, you won’t be able to participate.
So I want you to have this and I’ve made it as easy as possible. One click, you can have the funnel set up and you can go and customize it. And there are some steps to setting it up, but this is a huge leap. A few years ago. This didn’t even exist. So [00:18:00] now this is going to save you a lot of time. You can see the structure, the actual step by step structure that I use, and you can start using that right away.
It’s a complete funnel to help you get started fast, and it’s inside the Rise Reach Results roadmap. So to summarize, it includes the quick links or link in bio webpage. The lead magnet Canva template, the page template, and the mock up. The offer mock up, fill in the blank copy, and funnel with the order and download pages.
And then all of it is free to customize and use immediately. Take the time to go through every section of the Rise Reach Results Roadmap.
